Government Gateway - Register Now!

April 2017 saw the start of the business rates revaluation and the Governments new website To coincide with this the Government has also introduced a new business rates appeals process, which enables better management and transparency of the claims appeal stages. This new process is known as Check, Challenge Appeal (CCA). Business rates will now be managed through the Government Gateway – an online platform which allows access to national and local online government services safely and securely. Ratepayers will be required to set up a secure account and invite us as the Rating Agent to apply our expertise to reduce your rates liability and electronically manage the process through the check, challenge and appeal system.

Once Marston Associates has been appointed as Agent we will deal the CCA and the appropriate administration.

If you already have a Government Gateway account, in order to start the process, you can log in and follow the steps to claim your property or properties and appoint Marston Associates as your Agent.

If you do not already have a Government Gateway account you will need to register. Once you have registered you will receive your unique ID. You can then can go on to claim your property or properties.

Once you have logged in you will be asked to provide our agents code at the 'Appoint Agent' stage.

  3. Claim your property from the Rating List data
  4. Appoint a professional agent to act on your behalf (using the agent code)
  5. The process would need to be repeated for each property

As the Government Gateway process is a new system in the context of business rates appeals, further changes may be implemented by the Valuation Office Agency (VOA). The profession is engaging with the VOA and working to try to find a simpler way.
